We stayed at Sumiyoshia ryokan in Kanazawa for 2 nights in October. Choose it out of blue and loved the place very much. Upon arrival we were greeted by lovely Mia (hope I spell her name right). She showed us the room. We had #2: a bedroom and a living room, a hall, bid closets, toilet and a separate bathtub. There was a teakettle with warm tea in the room ready for us. Location was perfect. 15 min walk from station. Next-door to Omicho market. Walking distance to Castle, samurai and geisha district. We didn’t use bus at all. Mia cooked a great dinner every night. Those dinners were the best we tried in Japan. She prepared fish, vegetables, meat. Everything fresh from the market. She actually introduced us to Japanese food. It was lovely. Thank you Mia. She made beds for us and they were surprisingly very comfortable. We love the stay very much. Mia was an excellent host. We do recommend staying there if you want to try Japanese style of living

Its not only close to the castle and gardens but a stones throw away from a terrific fish market which was the highlight of our visit, bustling with great food. The Ryokan was excellent great food a good onset and also use of the washing machine. a real bonus when you are touring for 3 weeks. Very helpful staff.
