Welcome to Kasuga Hotel. This Ryokan Hotel displays hints of Japan as it must have been during the Tenpyo Period (around 730 A.D.). The building itself, replicates a particular ancient style. Guests of the Kasuga Hotel are guaranteed comfort in a superb environment. They also boast outside baths with garden view. This really is a graceful hotel with a traditional atmosphere.

The highlights of the stay were the huge and comfortable room, the attentive staff and the fantastic onsen facilities, including an outdoor pool. The only downsides were that it felt like we were staying in a hotel rather than the individualised experience we had at smaller ryokans, and the dining room which didn't have much atmosphere, although the service couldn't be faulted. They did a completely different dinner the second night for us which was great. However it seemed most of the other Japanese guests didn't dine there. The hotel was right next to Nara Park, the bus terminal and the main shopping district so easy to get around.

We spent 2 nights at the Kausuga, arriving late afternoon and needing to spend a full day visiting Nara and sampling sake. The people and food at Kausuga made our visit very special. We had quite a large Japanese room with dinner in the room and breakfast in the restaurant. The food was excellent, day 1 more traditional Japanese dinner and day 2 shabu shabu. Sleeping on futons was much more comfortable than I had anticipated. The staff was incredibly helpful and looked up places to visit, not only in Nara, but at other stops on our trip. The hotel has a public bath, gender divided. I had it all to myself when I visited and it was like an evening at the spa. Nara and the Kausuga Hotel were among the highlights of our trip to Japan.
