From the moment I arrived to the moment I checked out, the wonderful staff at the Mikuniya did everything they could to ensure my comfort and well being. Staying at this venerable inn was a treat! I stopped by early in the morning to drop my bag off and then went out to enjoy the day. After returning to the inn, I was asked to chose a yukata for my stay (so many pretty options!) and was given all I needed for the baths. The Mikuniya has three baths that you can use privately. I found there was never a wait for any of them. But the real experience in Kinosaki is to put on your yukata, slip into your wooden geta, and clip-clop along the willow-lined canal with all the other tourists going from bath to bath. There are seven, but I only made it to two. Both were outstanding. When I returned, a lovely dinner had been prepared for me in my room. I requested a dinner without meat and was easily accommodated. I added a tasty "sake tasting" to my meal (a set of three different glasses of sake) and life was good. After dinner I had time to stroll around before bedtime on a very comfy futon. The morning allowed time for more bathing, a very sumptuous breakfast (complete with an egg boiled in the hotspring waters), before check out. I highly recommend the Mikuniya!

Kinosaki is a small beautiful and quiet city. This ryokan is perfect to discover her. The room was gorgeous ans the food a treat. The staff was well advised for the visit (we were able to do 2 hours of cycling on the coast). And hot springs in yukata, perfect.

Mikuniya is located at a very convenient location on the main road near Kinosaki Onsen train station. The staff were very attentive and professional during the check in process. I arrived about an hour before check in time, but they graciously allowed me to store my luggage in the lobby before check-in. When I returned, my bags were waiting for me in my room. The facilities were clean and the food service for both dinner and breakfast was delicious. Even though I am tall, they had a yukata and a haori that fit me well. Included with the package is a pass that allows free access to the seven local onsen. If I return to Kinosaki, I will definitely stay here again.

The staff and location are ok. But the food wasn"t good at all: from far the less good diner after 4 weeks in Japan... it was just uninteresting and very basic. The staff sounds like each time we make a move, it was fantastic... We hoped something more traditionnal. We would enjoy more explanations about traditions and history in Japan, the way to take tea (it was served like a coca-cola...), etc. We will come back to Kinosaki for the Onsen, but not in a touristic Ryokan like that.
