I've dreamed of visiting Japan since I was a teenager, so when my husband and I finally had the opportunity, I was ecstatic. My hopes were sky-high and Fukiko-san managed to exceed them. We could not have asked for a more dedicated and considerate hostess. More than once she went far above and beyond just for us. Fukiko-san's vibrant personality and enthusiasm for life is evident in everything she does. Each meal was carefully selected (numerous ingredients having come from her own garden) and prepared with exquisite skill. She gave exceptional consideration to every activity and aspect of our to visit, resulting in some of the most memorable experiences in our entire Japan vacation (the Hozu River Boat Tour, Ijiri-san's kimono shop, and Kobayashi-san's antique shop are highly recommended!). One of the most enriching parts of all were the conversations we shared around the table. Fukiko-san is an excellent conversationalist and an incredibly interesting person. We are eager to return and visit our new friend! 富貴子さん、どうもありがとうございました!

It's hard to describe how wonderful this experience has been for us. We suddenly felt at home, the adorable hospitality that characterizes the Japanese culture is so well represented by the scintillating host Fukiko. We loved and still miss the long discussions with her, talking about traditions and history, religion and music...it was a magic dive into a new culture, a deep and dynamic exploration of a marvellous piece of world. Fukiko is a very special person, her generosity is so rare and the experience with her is something that everyone should live. And how to forget the so tasty food she prepared for us, we discovered so many new ingredients and dishes...we still dream her special onigiri, memorable!! The house where she hosted us is an authentic jewel of the Japanese tradition, so comfortable and clean, full of precious corners and sorrounded by the piecefull countryside of Kameoka. This experience will always remain vivid and bright...looking forward to coming back as soon as possible.

For every journey there is a ‘Top Of List” experience that can turn a holiday into a lifelong memorable experience. For more than 30 years I had wanted to visit Japan, to experience Japan and immerse myself in the day to day life of this amazing culture; but how do you explain that to a travel agency or Google? Repeated internet searches proved fruitless until I came across the Japanese Guest Houses website and saw some promise of achieving my goals. A short time and later I had found information and a video or two about Ms Fukiko and was so impressed with what I saw that I reworked my entire holiday itinery to be able to stay a short time with her. To say that Ms Fukiko is a memorable person would be the understatement of all time. She has boundless energy, is eternally optimistic and understands her guests needs. That last point cannot be stressed enough. We spent hours talking about Japan, its people and its culture, all while touring the local sites or enjoying a meal. This, this was my TOL experience and Ms Fukiko exceeded my every expectation. I’ll give you all a travel hint. If you want a holidy, go to Google or a travel agency. If you want to experience grass roots culture, book with Japanese Guest Houses. If you want your life changed (no, I am not kidding) try and spend time with Ms Fukiko, but be quick… the grass does not grow under this lady’s feet.

We stayed at Fukiko’s for two nights and they were amazing. Fukiko cooked for us twice and not only was it plentiful, it was also very delicious. We chose to visit the Sweetsmaker and the Antique Shop, as well as the secondhand Kimono Store. There we experienced some delicious treats and found some lovely souvenirs to bring home in addition to a beautiful Kimono with a matching Obi, for a really great price. In the afternoon, we did the boat trip down the Hozu river and saw some monkeys. All in all, it was a lovely time and Fukiko was a very generous and thoughtful host, who introduced us to her culture and traditions. We had a great time and would recommend this to everyone. The only disclaimer we might add is that it is a homestay, so it is important to follow the few rules there are.

We had a truly memorable experience staying two nights with Fukiko at her lovely traditional Japanese home just outside of Kyoto, near the town of Kameoka. Fukiko went out of her way to ensure our (larger than usual) party of five was comfortable and immersed in Japanese culture. She catered for our particular interests and so we had a wonderful time browsing and shopping in a second-hand kimono shop and antique store. We also loved our walk through her small village and into the surrounding countryside, visiting local temples and a spring blossom festival. Fukiko is a warm and generous host, with a wonderful command of English and a great sense of humour. This resulted in a lot of laughter and fun conversations. She cooked us delicious meals, many of the ingredients coming from her own organic garden or local suppliers. An absolute highlight for the predominantly female party was an introduction to her kimono collection, with personal fittings. If you want an authentic Japanese cultural experience outside of Japan's large cities, a stay with Fukiko is highly recommended.

Fukiko is a loving, cheerful and talented person. There was never a dull moment and I have really enjoyed talking to her, discussing with her about Japanese culture and customs. Her place is very comfortable, clean and cosy and her landscape garden is impeccable. She put great care in preparing my meals, using the freshest ingredients from her organic garden and local market, ensuring that I could get to try different Japanese flavours during my stay. Kameoka is a nice quiet Japanese village, close to many places of interests and is only a short ride from Kyoto station. I would definitely recommend this place for an authentic Japanese experience.

We stayed for 3 nights but wish it had been longer. The gorgeous house is clean, well cared for and very loved. We learnt so much from Fukiko about Japanese traditions and culture; she is very generous with her time and information. We did so much and there really is a lot around to see and do. Most of all we laughed so much, who would have thought that exercises on the kitchen floor would have been part of the experience! Fukiko is an amazing lady and we both felt really gratified to have met her. We would strongly recommend a visit with this wonderful woman.

Our stay here has been as doing a trip inside our journey in Japan. What impressed us most is how everything is made with love and devotion, the same that Fukiko had for us making this experience wonderful and unexpected. She has been the closest contact with the real Japan we had in the whole trip, but still in her home we found cultural opening. Hope to come back. Carmen She treated us as long time friends. Sorry for walking with shoes on the tatami. We won't never do it again. I'll consider the "sea approach" in future gardens. Staying here is not really cheap but makes you feel like in debt. Strange to me :) this stay is super suggested to anybody who would like to have a soul exchange Gabriele

A home-stay visit is a MUST especially for those who have seen the highlights of Japan or spent most of their tourist time in cities. Our visit was a hoot. Sharon will tell you that I never go into second-hand stores or antiques shops in the US. We did in Kameoka. Fukiko has an excellent command of English and is flexible about where to take people.
