Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Note: This ryokan is closed from November 1 until the end of April every year. Welcome to Denjiro. This Traditional Ryokan was built about 150 years ago, at the end of the Edo Period, by Denjiro Ishii. It was eventually converted into a ryokan by his ancestors, who now run the business, and they make a point of trying to maintain the building's traditional look and feel. A maximum of 10 guests can stay at Denjiro per day, and the owners pride themselves on their hospitality and service. There is a large family bath at Denjiro, as well as a number of public hot spring baths nearby (the ryokan staff can provide transportation to and from these hot spring baths). Fukuroda Waterfall is also nearby. Fresh, seasonal cuisine is served, and the owners even grow their own vegetables to use when making the meals. Fresh soba noodles are available (separate charge) at lunch time in "Ichiyo", Denjiro's restaurant. Please note that that this ryokan can be a bit smoky at times, since the owners periodically burn logs in the fireplace to maintain the ryokan's beautiful thatched roof. Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is before 10:00. Parking is available for free (up to 10 cars).
