Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Welcome to Amaterasu. This Ryokan Hotel is located at Kirishima Onsen. Each of its 46 guests rooms have a private bath and toilet. Its two buildings, the Kuretake-Sansou and the Ohlin-Sansou, have four and seven floors respectively. From their room, guests will enjoy the view of Mount Eboshi. The culinary specialty of the Amaterasu is black pork. At Amaterasu there is no public bath. There are 8 "Family Baths" (that you can use privately), it's available 24 hours a day; free of charge. In guest's room, there is no TV. All guest's rooms are Non-smoking.
