Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.
It take 20 minutes from JR Toya Station (on the Muroran Honsen Line) by public bus. The nearest bus top is Toyako Onsen Chuo dori bus stop. There is a shuttle bus from JR Sapporo station (north exit), leaving at 13:00 (arriving at 15:30). It costs 1,080 yen per person and reservations are required.
