Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Welcome to Hakuunso. This beautiful Luxurious Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below) has 16 Japanese-style rooms, and each room has its own private bath and toilet. Four of the guest rooms at Hakuunso have their own private hot spring bath as well. There are shared indoor and outdoor hot spring baths for both women and men. The indoor hot spring bathing hours are from 12:30pm to 12:00 midnight and from 6:30am to 9:30am. The outdoor hot spring bathing hours are from 12:30pm to 12:00 midnight. Hakuunso serves traditional Japanese meals (including Japanese "sashimi" - raw fish) in the privacy of the guest rooms. Check-in time is after 14:20 and check-out time is before 10:30 am. Attention: If you make a reservation at Hakuunso, please let us know how many women and men will be staying. Hakuunso needs to set out the women's and men's Japanese "yukatas" (cotton robes) in advance of your stay. They would also like to know if you need Medium, Large, or Extra Large yukatas. Thank you!
Important Travel Warning: It takes a long time to go through customs at Narita International Airport and then travel to Hakone. If your plane lands in the early morning at Narita International Airport, you can make it to a Hakone ryokan in time for dinner. However, if your plane arrives after 10:00am you will not be able to make it in time for dinner. You should stay at least 1 night in Tokyo and then go to Hakone the next day.
