Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

This ryokan is located in Shimabara, Nagasaki Prefecture - a 2 hour and 15 minute train ride from Nagasaki Station.
Welcome to the Tsukumo Hotel. This Ryokan Hotel is located on the waterfront in Shimabara, near the active volcano Mount Unzen. There are 62 Japanese and Western-style rooms in the Tsukumo Hotel which consists of a 7 story ""Honkan"" (main building) and a 5 story ""Bekkan"" (annex). In Tsukumo Hotel's Bekkan, guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor shared hot spring baths (same gender only) and enjoy their ocean views. The indoor hot spring baths are open from 12:00 noon until midnight. The women's and men's outdoor hot spring baths are open from 12:00 noon to 20:00 and from 5:00 to 9:00, and they can both hold up to 40 bathers. Saunas are also available. Check-in time is after 15:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am. Parking is available.
