Shorotei is definitely one of our favorite ryokans when we visit the western side of Japan. The property is beautifully landscaped, the ryokan is well appointed, the staff is so very professional and kind and the location is hard to beat. Some understanding of Japanese is needed here.

Shorotei was an amazing stay for myself and my two friends who had joined me. We had decided to backpack across Japan, but wanted to stay in one ryokan while we were there, and we ended up deciding to stay here while we visited Amanohashidate. In the end, my best description is that it was amazing. The hosts were extremely friendly, hospitable, and bent over backwards for even the littlest things. We also got a chance to taste a lot of the local foods and ingredients with both dinner and breakfast, as well as some wonderful homemade Japanese deserts. The staff also took the time to translate things like our dinner menu and directions to some of the local sites well before we arrived, which was wonderful, even if not entirely necessary. The rooms and onsen were also designed well, although the outdoor onsen is a bit small, but that is a very minor thing. I just want to say that my stay was amazing, and I would hands down return again.
