  We spent a night in this Ryokan in a room with private toilet. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. We needed to leave our luggage onsite for a few hours after checking out with they were happy to assist with, as well as helping us flag a taxi. Would definitely return and spend longer in this impeccable Ryokan.

  Hotel has very nice, quiet and clean rooms. It is decorated with lovely Japanese fittings. English speaking clerks are extremely polite and cooperative. Restrooms are provided with modern & comfortable TOTO gadgets There are common baths also, The traditional Japanese breakfast is delicious. We very much enjoyed our stay and do recommend it!

  We stayed five days at the Ryokan. The place is very charming and clean. The staff is great, always kind and helpful. There are cafes and subway very close, and you can go walking to Nishiki Market. Highly recommended!!

  Helpful and friendly staff, one of which was happy to practice his Swedish (!) with us. Good location for sightseeing - easy access by bus to Imperial palace, Nijō castle, Gion (incl Kiyomizu and Chion), Kinkakuji, or by train to Fushimi-Inari temple. Nice that such a small place has an onsen. The ladies’ onsen was slightly run-down, the men’s was top notch (if small). There’s a slightly muggy smell in the entrance and in some of the rooms. Would definitely stay here again!

  Second experience in a ryokan. large and confortable room with two windows on a side street. Clean and large onsen. Very nice and helpfull team. a good place to stay in kyoto.

  I cannot recommend this ryokan enough. Super new (as of 2018), super clean, large beautiful rooms (pay the extra for the private bath), quiet and with comfortable pillows! Small, but clean and available ofuro (hot bath). Washer/dryer is free. The overnight desk clerk is great (good english plus bits of many more) and the other staff friendly and helpful. We didn't eat there as Kyoto is simply packed with so much good food.

  This place is immaculate and the room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. We had three people in a room with enough room for a table and chairs to enjoy tea in the afternoon. We easily walked to a bakery for breakfast and the subways were close-by. This place was a great choice for a stay in Kyoto. We were extremely happy here and would definitely return.

  I booked Sawaya Honten for a weekend visit for myself and four other students on an exchange trip to Japan. The staff was very accommodating and lovely the minute we entered the ryokan. The rooms themselves were well-kept and maintained and very clean. I would highly recommend the place. The bathing facilities are also top-notch, as well as the amenities (we love the socks!). The area around the ryokan is a bit quiet, but there are cafes, convenience stores, and bus stops well within walking distance.

  A lovely end to a two week stay in Japan. The room was spacious, the food excellent, the location brilliant for us (we loved just ambling around, the close vicinity to the rail, the river). Many thanks to the staff, especially the young man who was up really early to help us with the shuttle and greeted us in German.
