Welcoming staff, with a handy pick up service from the station. We had a spacious room with an ensuite. The bath downstairs was only warm, so the ensuite handy. The meals were exceptional featuring regional dishes of beef, and miso. The price was a little expensive but there was wonderful view of the distant mountains from our room. All in all a lovely experience.

Large comfortable room (for 3 people in our case), excellent bathing facilities, and wonderful food, served in a communal dining room. The guests at the ryokan included many Japanese, and some foreigners. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The location outside the town center is actually excellent - it's a very pleasant 15 - 20 minute walk to the train station, and the beautiful surroundings of Murayama ryokan include proximity to the Hida Folk Village (NOT TO BE MISSED!) and a traditional pottery shop, Koito Pottery. If we get back to Takayama (and I sure hope we do) we'll definitely stay there again.
