We stayed here during our honeymoon for my husband's birthday. Amazing was an understatement. This place blew our mind! We booked the Japanese-styled room with private spa bath as we both have big tattoos and we also wanted privacy. Once we got there, we were upgraded to the room with sea-view! View from the room was amazing, the Japanese-styled beds were comfortable and the food provided exceeded all expectations. The food was fresh, delicious and more than we could finish. They had a good sake selection which we drank every night. Staff was the best and so very thoughtful! They went above and beyond helping us as we don't speak Japanese. For one of the meal, we received a drawn picture of our meal with names of what they were as there wasn't any English speaking staff that day. Location wise, it was easy enough to get there as they picked us up from the Fukuyama train station. A warning that it is a pretty quiet place. We explored the island on foot for a couple of hours but pretty much spent 2 whole days relaxing in the bath or reading a book. I highly recommend this to everyone who is interested in a traditional Japanese ryokan.

Great Ryokan. We booked quite late and ended up with a room without bath/shower, which was tough considering the extreme heatwave. But JGH helped us booking the private onsen in the evening which was great (although not very hot). Food was excellent, and staff very friendly and accommodating. There is a quick ferry trip to Sensui island, very beautiful and we even spotted rays just swimming very close to the shore, which was a beautiful experience. Combini is close, and Tomonoura is well worth an extendedi stroll; it was quite unfortunate that it was way too hot to visit the inside of some of the buildings while we were there. As in any Ryokan, it helps a lot to understand some basic Japanese.

The staff were lovely. One spoke very good English, the others tried their best and were apologetic. It was quite amusing for us and one lovely staff member at dinner, as our japanese and her english ware super limited! Which made communication of what things were very tricky! But we had a laugh and I was so impressed and appreciative of the effort the chef made to create a multi-course vegetarian japanese dinner! This was our little splurge and I believe the nicest of the three hotels in Fukuyama. Fukuyama itself is exactly what you'd expect. Quiet, tranquil, and friendly locals happy to help you out. There is a shrine worth hiking up to for the view alone! Keishokan Sazanamitei it beautiful. A little oasis on our trip. The onsen with ocean view was like a dream - we never wanted to get out! The room was beautiful, the tatami mats and our sleep very comfortable, we never wanted to leave! If I ever go back, and had money to blow, I would certainly go there again - and probably stay for two nights. Thank you, you made our trip very special and we will treasure this memory for ever!

Our purpose for the trip at the ryoken was for a birthday treat, and also an anniversary and it ticked all the boxes. we had a small bus meet us at the train station and took us to the hotel. when we got there, we were greeted at the door sat down with a drink and a small snack as they went thru the paperwork, we got to choose our selection for our main menu, which was mainly a selection of fish heads, or small pieces of steak - we were slightly concerned that one of us may of been going hungry - we were surly mistaken The staff their even though they don't get too many foreign visitors coming thru, they were super friendly and tried their very best to help with every possible way. our room was gorgeous and had a beautiful view of the sunset over the islands and the ocean, me and my partner ordered a private bath it was wooden sides with continual running water into it - so tranquil and peaceful we never wanted to get out. we went down for dinner, we were placed in our own separate room for dinning, and in there was at least 9 dishes of food as an entrée each beautifully set out like a feast, one side with the seafood options, and the other non-seafood (as requested) then main dish came out, and another like 9 dishes each. each dish was amazing, fresh and WOWsies!! the futon mattresses on the floor were super comfy, and the next day for breakfast, it was another amazing banquet and they had a little authentic Japanese gift with a note saying happy birthday - which made the memory of the trip super special :) the Stay at Keishokan Sazanamitei was amazing the food was amazingly WOW!!, the staff were helpful, friendly and nice and we just felt like at home. I fully recommend Keishokan as a Ryoken experience.
