Welcome to Iwamotoro. There are 34 rooms in the Ryokan Hotel and 29 rooms have their own private bath and toilet. This ryokan is known for its unique baths - there are two, located in a cave, for guests who wish to experience a truly unique Japanese bath, and the baths are 20 meters (65 feet) long. The indoor bath is designed in a Roman bath style, complete with stained-glass windows. There is also an outdoor swimming pool with a view of the ocean. Iwamotoro is an historic ryokan filled with Japanese antiques, some of which are over 700 years old. Check-in time is after 15:00 and check-out time is before 10:00am.

  We stayed at this ryokan for one night and it was a wonderful experience. It's situated in Enoshima, on a lovely street. The dinner was amazing, a banquet really, beautifully presented. The only quibble I would have is that it's not in Kamakura as it's marketed, and to see the Kamakura Daibutsu we got a taxi after checking in our bags, as that was the easiest way of getting there. However, Enoshima was such a beautiful seaside town, it worked out well.

  We stayed on the island in May 2018 and we were treated with great service. The onsen is beautiful and a real highlight of our stay. We used both the Roman baths and the Cave baths. We had a fantastic dinner served in our room with a beautiful view of Mount Fuji at sunset. Takako was a gracious hostess and looked after our every need! One thing that needs mentioning is that the hotel is really due for some renovations. The carpets are old and the decor very dated. It is a beautiful hotel but just needs some updating so that the decor is in line with the great service and outstanding food.

  We had a great stay at Iwamotoro. We stayed two nights with our 20minth old daughter. The room was spacious and the view amazing out over the bay and even caught a glimpse of Mt Fuji. The staff were wonderful and attentive and the food amazing and plentiful. The island was beautiful but we went on a hot long weekend and it was just insanely busy. Absolutely crowded. That was the only downside. Otherwise a wonderful spot.

  We stayed at Iwamotoro for a night in December 2013 and went back for two nights in April this year. The ryokan itself is hotel style and while it is long established, it isn't shabby and retains a lot of charm. The staffing and service levels are very high, I thought. Some staff speak English well enough to make it easy, our attendant gave it 100% and was much better at it than she thought, she was really lovely and a lot of fun. There is wifi in the lobby area that creeps into the rooms if you are lucky, and a nice coffee room with views of the bay and Mt Fuji if you are up early enough or the day is clear enough. Our rooms were fairly typical for the price range, the bathroom is adequate and the facilities nice enough. We had views of the bay and Mt Fuji from our room, though Mt Fuji disappears in the haze after about 8AM and I'm not sure that my wife appreciated me bouncing her out of bed at 4.30AM to look at it. The baths are very nice, with a cave setup alternating with a roman bath style. The roman bath is showing its age a little, but that adds to the experience because it has a lot of history. The food is very good. It is different to some ryokans I've stayed at which might be a locality thing, and very much fish based. Even breakfast involves a number of fish dishes rather than one or two. I was told that the third night's meal is wagyu based, so we missed out on that but we were very happy with the meals we had. I don't think that there is a western breakfast, not that you'd want one. Enoshima itself is a great place to stay. It is very busy on weekends and holidays especially when it is warm, but we found plenty of things away from the crowds. The whole island has a dragon theme coming from an old legend, so if you are into dragons, Enoshima is the place for you. Also if you are into hawks, there are flocks of the local kites buzzing around which is quite amazing to see, some cats, plenty of pet dogs, and the odd squirrel that one would think would have anxiety issues given the hawks, cats, and dogs. Enoshima is also pretty handy to the NEX (from Ofuna) so it makes it great for the last night of a trip if you don't want to be in a city. All up, highly recommended.
