Welcome to Homeikan. Located near Tokyo University and Tokyo Dome in a quiet part of the city, this Traditional Ryokan has two buildings: a "Honkan" and a "Bekkan". Originally a private residence, Homeikan has a history of 100 years and, as a result it is a little run down; however, it has a lot of character and atmosphere and there is also a beautiful Japanese garden at the "Bekkan." Homeikan is a traditional ryokan and none of the Japanese-style guest rooms have private baths or toilets. There are 3 shared baths here and the baths are open 24 hours a day. Homeikan does not have a curfew so guests are free to enjoy the Tokyo nightlife. Check-in time is after 15:00 but all guests must check in by 22:00 (10:00 pm) - no exceptions. If you arrive after 22:00 the reception desk will be closed, your reservation will be cancelled, and you will be charged a 100% cancellation fee.

I would like to recommend this ryokan as one of my favourite places in Tokyo. This trip I stayed in a different building (they have three) to my previous visit. Myoban is a little further away from the main building for trains, but it was still a lovely big building with some nice bathing facilities and very friendly staff. The room is a standard ryokan with a futon, tatami mats, low table and the usual amenities. The breakfast (Y1100) is recommended, if you enjoy eating (a ten course Japanese meal) in your room. Just be warned that they have this habit of swapping the mens and womens bathing and toilet facilities, to keep the guests on their toes (check the symbols before entering!)

Large rooms, beautiful garden, and great staff. The Japanese breakfast here was delicious. The private family bath was very nice. The inn is on a steep hill, so keep that in mind if you plan to walk there. I was only there for a couple of nights, but I would definitely stay there again.
