My friend and I had an amazing experience staying at Henjoko-in. The room was very warm and comfortable, the vegetarian food was interesting (tastes and textures we've never had before!), the robes provided a fun novelty to the trip, and bathing in the onsen area was pleasurable also. Witnessing the monk's early morning worship was fascinating, and although very cold sitting there is a once in a life time experience. Despite the long trek to get there, and the cold weather, it was an experience not to miss! The surrounding area, visiting the temples and walking through the forest and memorial pathways was stunning. The actual location of this accommodation isnt the most convenient regarding transport, but the town is rather small anyway so its easy to walk around. Do not expect hotel service, it is only a homestay to experience a glimpse of what the buddhist monks do. Would recommend highly!
