The location of this Ryokan cannot be bettered. The views from our room were sensational. The staff were very friendly and courteous and the dinner was outstanding, even though some items were challenging for western tastes. The room was very large too. The only downside for our Japanese room was the thickness (or lack of) of the futon. While we got used to sleeping on futons on the floor, after a more comfortable night at Miyajima with a thicker futon, we realise these could have been more comfortable.

Very traditional

Great room and very friendly staff. The food was a little too traditional for us. Never knew you could have seafood in so many ways, even for breakfast...and I am very adventurous... The location is amazing...

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aioi Roykan after we found it. Excellent location beside the Atomic dome. However the building needs a big sign in English for those of us who don't know Japanese. The accomodations were excellent, comfortable and roomy. The food was an enjoyable experience, the dinner in our room and the breakfast in the banquet room. The staff were most helpful and accomodating and friendly. We will certainly return to this roykan when there is no festival and the price more reasonable

Great location and very quiet. We found it easily although an English sign would help. The food was very traditional but most enjoyable. Breakfast was a MUST and gave a real feel for how a traditional breakfast would be. Sake as well. We were a bit apprehensive about the bedding but we both had a magic night's sleep on the floor with the most comfy doona ever. The staff were friendly and helpful in every way. Our room overlooked the Peace Park and the tranquil rooms were reflective of our stay. We didn't try the baths, that will be next time.

Our stay in October 2014 at the Aioki Ryokan in Hiroshima was extremely pleasant. It is a traditional ryokan in which you can experience an old-fashioned Japanese style guest house, quite different from a standard western-style hotel. The service was courteous, from the warm welcome to goodbye bows from reception staff. We found it without difficulty, having shown the taxi driver at the train station the address (both in English and Japanese). He delivered us to the front door, which had no posted English sign or address on the building. We were the only non-Japanese guests at the time. We had previously been advised that there was to be a large group of elementary school children staying here, but the children were quite well-behaved and supervised, and the ryokan somehow made sure that we were not affected in any way by their presence, other than specifying dedicated time slots for them to use the public baths. The proprietor speaks some limited English and none of the staff speak more than a few words, but this was not a problem at all. Our room was comfortably sized and minimalist, classically attractive, furnished with a small table and chairs as well as cushions and a low table on which our dinner was served. The windows were lined with shoji screens and the floor covered in tatami mats. There was an en suite bathroom. The public baths were on the top floor, with a window looking out over the Atomic Dome Memorial in the park, which is lit up at night and creates a beautiful, if sobering, focal viewpoint. We chose to partake of the Japanese breakfast and dinner at the ryokan. Breakfast was served in a common room, though at the time we were there we never saw other guests. Dinner was served in our room. Both meals were excellent, with a myriad of small dishes containing intriguing and sometimes mysterious tidbits, such as pickled and salted vegetables and fruits, raw fish, seaweed, grilled mackerel, miso soup, and rice. After dinner our gracious server cleared away the dishes and rolled out our futons, which were basic but comfortable. The ryokan is very well located, being across the street from the Atomic Dome memorial and about three blocks from the Hiroshima Museum. It is also very convenient to public transportation, one half block from major tram lines to Hiroshima station. While in Hiroshima we also spent an afternoon at Miyajima, which was accessible from the same nearby tram line. All in all our stay at Aioki Ryokan was very pleasant and leaves us with fond memories of our time in Hiroshima. I recommend it highly.

I would highly recommend. Staff was courteous and went out of their way to accommodate our needs due to my seafood allergies. Great location, room was impeccable. Would definitely stay there again. For me an experience of a lifetime.

This guest house is perfectly positioned directly across from the Bomb Dome and provided easy access to the Peace Memorial Park. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't find the language barrier much of a problem, although I would recommend carrying a Japanese phrase book as a backup. We were not used to the traditional food, but enjoyed most of what we were served. We would highly recommend this Ryokan to anyone looking for the traditional Japanese experience.
