We loved our stay at Asakichi from the first moment we arrived and were greeted with a friendly and warm welcome. Our room was clean and spacious overlooking the garden, complete with yukata's and a perfect bathroom. The food was delicious and beautifully served in a charming dining room. Asakichi was a perfect resting place when visiting the Ise Shrines. Paradise!

This very old ryokan has a wonderful typical wooden japanese architecture and absolute nice rooms with views. The quality of the offered freshly cooked meals was tremendous and the staff was absolutely perfectly kind. We enjoyed our stay a lot and can only recommend the stay in this ryokan which is more typical japanese than lots of other ryokans we stayed in. It's a 15 minute walk from the train station or a short taxi drive - also a bus stops right in front of the building.

What a wonderful place! My husband and I only spent one night at Asakichi, and still can't stop talking about how we wish we'd stayed longer! The room was spacious and clean. Our futons were heavenly to sleep on. The in-room dinner and cafeteria breakfast were absolutely divine (and a great introduction to typical Ise-style cooking, which my husband had never tried)! The wonderful hosts running the ryokan were also some of the sweetest people we met on our adventures in Japan. Their gracious hospitality and friendly attitude left us wishing we had booked a longer stay. As others have mentioned, there is a bus that goes directly to Ise Shrine right outside the building, and a cab ride from Iseshi station was quick and inexpensive. The hosts speak a little English, enough that between my broken Japanese and their English we were able to ask them for directions and recommendations, as well as have them call a cab for us upon our departure. We would absolutely stay here again, and look forward to a time when we are able to return. I can't praise Asakichi and its hosts enough...!!

My husband and I loved Asakichi. We are still sad that we didn't stay longer! Our room was spacious and clean. The futons were super comfortable. The in-room dinner and cafeteria breakfast were absolutely divine! They were a wonderful introduction to Ise-style fare for my husband, who had never been to Ise before. The hosts were just wonderful people, the sweetest we met on our adventures in Japan. Their gracious hospitality and friendly attitude left us wishing we could have stayed longer! It was an absolute delight to stay at Asakichi and we hope to return someday soon!

For 3 months in 1965, I stayed in ryokans exclusively; this trip, only 3. The Asakichi was my favorite this trip & of those I remember. The mother and son who run it make the difference: kind, helpful, happy to see me but not intrusive. Their food and service was outstanding. My room was quiet, very comfortable & spacious. The ryokan itself is charmingly ancient and authentic. I especially appreciated the meal service (up 3 flights of stairs from the kitchen!) in my room. The bus stop made it very easy to get to and from the shrines. I can't wait to return.
