Hot springs have a very long history in Japan, and they are an intimate part of Japanese culture. There are over 3,000 "onsen" ,or hot springs, in Japan. Many can be found at the ryokans available on Japanese Guest Houses.

Welcome to Minakami Sanso. This Modern Ryokan has 23 Japanese-style rooms, and 7 guest rooms have their own private hot spring bath. There are indoor hot spring baths for both women and men on the 3rd floor, and the baths hold up to 30 bathers each. The women’s outdoor rock hot spring bath accommodates up to 25 bathers and the men’s hold up to 30 bathers. There is also a private hot spring bath which can be reserved (ask at the front desk for details). Traditional Japanese-style cuisine is served to the guests at Minakami Sanso. Check-in time is after 2:00pm and check-out time is before 10:30. Parking is available. Warning: Please bring enough cash before you get on the train and go to Minakami Sanso. There are very few ATMs in this area.
