Welcome to Mikawaya Ryokan. This Traditional Ryokan is 116 years old and it is surrounded by a lovely Japanese garden and pond. However, the ryokan is located near a very busy road and sometimes it can be noisy at night. There are several buildings at Mikawaya Ryokan: a "honkan", a "shinkan", and 2 private guest residences. In total, there are 40 Japanese-style guest rooms in these buildings. There are indoor and outdoor hot spring baths (same gender only), and the outdoor hot spring baths are made of "hinoki" (Japanese cypress wood). Fresh, seasonal Japanese cuisine is served to the guests. Check-in time is from 15:00 to 17:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am. Parking is available.

Before me and my husband came, we already know just how old this ryokan is. So we expected already the aged walls and floors, so it came with no surprise. What was surprising to us is that this ryokan may have been a very significant ryokan as it is announced on the Hakone Bus Service for the bus stop in front of it. I came across to other ryokans in the area and none of them are mentioned on the bus service so Mikawaya must have been really special! The service was good, not the best, but the food was great! Although Okamisan can not speak English with us, but we enjoyed our lost translation moment with her. I would definitely come back if I go to Hakone again!
