We were absolutely taken aback by the awe-inspiring view of Mt Fuji (from both our room and the foot spa on the roof). It was a beautifully clear day and you could make out the landscape definitions of the mountain (we were very lucky!). And it snowed overnight, which completely transformed Lake Kawaguchiko into a Winter wonderland by morning. The staff were lovely and the service was very attentive. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats and had the kaseiki dinner. Our server was lovely and luckily my partner spoke enough Japanese for her to be able to communicate to us what each of the courses were. The only thing I would mention to prospective Western visitors is that we didn't find the tatami mats to be the most comfortable night's sleep. Obviously we wanted to try them to complete the Japanese ryokan experience but when we come back we will probably stick to a room with a Western bed. All in all, a once in a lifetime experience and we will definitely be back!

Although modern, this ryokan upholds all the traditions. It was an excellent stay, aided by occasionally chilly but very sunny weather, which gave us splendid views of Mt Fuji, including from the lovely public baths of the hotel. Dinners were wonderful, served privately, and very nice breakfasts, in the dining room. A quiet area, but with a car we enjoyed seeing the local sights, and it is not possible to tire of Fuji. Overall excellent.

Considering its size, we were happily surprised at how cozy and charming it was. Most larger hotels would be impersonal and/or sterile, but the building was kept up well, the service was great, and we were made to feel welcome all over. The baths & common areas are nicely maintained, and the personal service in our room - the meal, the futon service, etc - were great. Dinner in our room was a high point, and the buffet breakfast was really great - a large, tasty selection. The town itself is a much bigger tourist destination than we thought - it's quite a madhouse at the train station, overrun with tourists from all over - so you have to get away from the town center to enjoy a stress-free vacation...

The hotel is simply stunning. The service and food is unrivalled, I would highly recommend this for your visit. The view nearly brought me to tears it was so beautiful. Make sure you plan time for all the extras as well, I would highly recommend the massage and private bath. Each room has an assigned member of staff to help them and despite her limited English our lady made every effort and absolutely made our stay.
