Masa FujiwaraMasa Fujiwara was born in Osaka, Japan. He studied at Doshisha University in Kyoto before moving to the United States where he studied solar house design and construction, and lived and worked for nine years. In 1988 Masa moved to Kyoto and established the architectural design firm "Master Design." His firm specializes in combining Japanese construction techniques with western innovation.

Versed in the Japanese arts of tea ceremony, flower arrangement, gardening, and cooking, Masa has been privately guiding clients from all over the world and creating customized tours throughout Japan. Since 1996, he has worked with such companies and organizations as Espirit Travel, American Express, and the Smithsonian Institute.

In addition to the tours, Masa can also provide you with an insider's knowledge of Kyoto and its treasures. Tours can be tailored to meet your specific interests. For example, Masa can provide you with:

  • visits to Kyoto artist studios
  • accommodation and dining information
  • transportation advice
  • reservations for cultural events and Imperial villas
  • information on activities for children
  • historical and cultural background
