Ryokan Motonago gave us superb and attentive service during our three night stay in Kyoto. The food was superlative, and we especially appreciated the respect for dietary limitations and the flexibility towards daily meal plans. Motonago is located in a pleasant neighborhood in eastern Kyoto near the historic Kiyomizu-dera Buddhist temple and the Yasaka Shinto shrine. It will take you several minutes to walk to the nearest rail station if you don't want to use a cab or bus. The hot baths are good but not special, and private family sessions can be scheduled. Ongoing daytime construction slightly compromised the atmosphere, but that may be over by the time you visit. In sum, highly recommended!
