Welcome to Notoya-Ginzan. This wooden, 4 story Traditional Ryokan is gorgeous with plenty of character and history for guests looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation. There are 15 Japanese-style guest rooms in both wings of Notoya-Ginzan, and each guest room has its own private toilet. There are 3 indoor and outdoor wooden and rock hot spring baths for both women and men (same gender only) but the outdoor bath is closed during the winter season. There is also a “family bath” which means a sign can be hung outside the bath and guests can bathe privately. Fresh, local traditional Japanese cuisine is served. Check-in time is after 14:00 and check-out time is before 10:30 am.

My thanks to Japanese Guest Houses for securing a place at Ginzan Onsen! It was a dream come true. It was also my first Ryokan experience and Notoya-Ginzan did not disappoint. The dinner meal was all locally sourced and plentiful. The breakfast that was served was also magnificent. The location was gorgeous! Especially when lighted up by the gas lamps at night. The staff at Notoya-Ginzan were marvelous and took cafe of us. This was an unforgettable experience.

One of the top highlights of our trip! The service was beyond anything we've ever experienced, the beds were comfy, the food was delicious, and the view from the top of the mountain spa was breathtaking. A big thanks to Japanese Guest Houses for arranging the stay for us - we'd definitely recommend both the service and Notoya Ginzan, and would visit again!

Notoya was an incredible stay. Without a doubt one of the top highlights of our Japan trip. The room was beautiful, the service was caring beyond anything we'd ever experienced and the beds were some of the most comfortable we had on our trip. But the food was the best part! So many different dishes, all of them delicious - both breakfast and dinner. Finally, the onsens are fantastic. We were only staying 1 night but managed to fit both private baths in during that time - one of them twice. They really warmed us to the bone and helped us shake off the stresses of travelling...not to mention the breathtaking view from the mountain spa! Couldn't recommend Notoya more. Thanks to JapaneseGuestHouses for setting this up for us! The service was extremely helpful and we'd definitely use it again.

I've been to ginzan onsen by driving. It was very easy to get there with Notoya free parking area. Notoya is very special, the room was clean and very traditional japanese style. The meals, breakfast and dinner, were well-prepared and delicious. Everything was awesome and worth to stay!

It was a very nice place to stay. We felt welcome and enjoyed the good dinners and breakfasts. We brought some presents for the owners, to appreciate their hospitality and they gave us a warm thank you. Tip; Not many guests from Europe in Ginzan Onsen, for that it was even more special to stay. Nice to wander around in the streets at night and sit with your feet in the outside onsen. Visit the waterfall and drive to Nuruko to paint a Kokeshi doll.

I would to thank Japanese Guest House for helping us to secure the best room in Notoya facing the river with fantastic views. I tried booking Notoya at various website and it was not available. Japanese Guest House also arranged for the Ryokan to pick us up at the train station. Once again thank you very much Japanese Guest House. Ginsan Onsen is AWESOME both in the day & night - beautiful place especially at night when the whole place is lighted up. Notoya is a one of the best ryokan that I have stayed in so far, the place is well very maintain. We had a wonderful kaiseki dinner in our bedroom and breakfast in the adjoining building. We tried the cave onsen which is private. Awesome! I will definitely return again in Winter for this magical experience.

This is like visiting an anime town once night falls. The whole town lit with orange lights looks like a scene right out of spirited away. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and hospitable making for terrific service. The room we had was especially big for 7 pax and there was still room for all our huge luggages. It is also conveniently located across the souvenir shop and a stone's throw away from the waterfall. Really pretty town!

After a year’s wait, finally managed to get an accommodation in Dec 2018. Very focused stay of 2 nights. Snowing while at the train station but got a bowl of chasiew-men to stay warm & Happy. Notoya is a graded-up place to stay. The location is just right to capture beautiful pics. Service is excellent not forgetting the food. Yup my onsen is marvelous too. A good getaway - close to heaven as well as an element of mysterious moment too.

First I must give a Super big thank you to Japanese Guest House for helping me book this hotel. And for making my magical experience here possible. In my 18 days Tohoku trip, my husband voted this hotel to be the best service hotel. From beginning to end, their service is immaculate. There is always a staff around the corner whenever you need help with directions or something. The hotel staff was waiting for us at the carpark when we arrived by rental car to help fetch our luggages to the hotel. But we have arranged to carry 1 change of clothes in our haversacks since I noticed that Ginzan Onsen do not allow cars to enter their streets. But to my surprise, I don’t see any problem if we want to bring our big luggages along. When we arrived, our slippers were arranged nicely and our shoes were kept away properly. Check-in was easy and a map was given to explain details of the building. This historical building is so beautiful and well kept with nice polished wooden floors. The room is spacious with fridge and air purifier. Temperature is comfortable too. Thanks to Japanese Guest House, I managed to stay in the best facing room (booked 6 mths in advanced). My room is beside the signature front view which is most photographed by tourists. Day and night I see people pointing and taking photos from my window. So I am glad that I can have my pic taken together with the building. My room is quiet except with the soothing sound of the flowing river. I tried the common bath which is nice but the private hill side bath is definitely awesome. We were warned that there are 85 steps walk up to the private onsen. But when we reached there, it is worth all the effort with the beautiful autumn foliage view as well as the far away waterfall view. Dinner and breakfast are served in the next building which are very sumptuous and delicious. Good thing about this historical building is that it has a lift! Ginzan Onsen is very beautiful and romantic at night. Staying at this centrally located ryokan enables my hubby and I to walk around the area admiring the lights at night. The lights at Ginzan Onsen is simply magical at night. There is also an open air foot bath nearby. Initially I was torn between choosing Notoya or Fujiya and I am glad that I chose this ryokan to stay. We hope to be back again 1 day in Winter! Finally, really big thank you to Japanese Guest House for offering good and reliable service to help everyone to stay at such historical ryokans.

Ginzan is an amazing place. You feel like you are living in a secluded lovely valley with awesome scenery, waterfall, bat cave, open foot bath, souvenir shops. It’s our first time staying in a ryokan and Notoya is simply lovely! Warm welcome from pick up from train station to hotel and they helped transport our luggages as well. Explained and brought us to our room, dinner in the room, private onsen and prepare for bed time. Felt like we were treated like royals. Staff were friendly but if only they could speak better English hence we missed out on the cave onsen and open bath as no one could really explain it to us. Dinner spread was very good especially the shabu shabu beef. Breakfast spread was just as good that we had food coma after dinner and breakfast. Our room face the canal and we could listen to the water flow as we sleep - simply magical feel. Will certainly return though price seems pretty steep.

From our bus ride into the town of Ginzan we say Japanese Macaque's and from that point on we knew that our experience at the Onsen town would be fantastic! Checking in was lovely and quick, the layout of the Ryokan was explained to us and we were taken to our room. We had a view of the river which was beautiful and we could listen to the water running throughout our stay, we enjoyed playing card games whilst overlooking the river and sitting at our table. The ryokans provided were ideal and were big enough for my partner who is quite large! The town is beautiful to walk around, with a few shops selling delicious omiyage and crafted goods, Notoya really comes alive when it gets dark and the lights come on! Upon check in we reserved the last slot in the private bath, during our stay we also tried out the underground cave bath which was VERY hot! I didn't actually try out the public baths in the Ryokan though am accustomed to doing so, instead I using their washing facilities before heading up the private bath in the evening (as there are no washing facilities with either of the private baths). If you reserve the private bath make sure you pick up the key as soon as possible, the 85 steps to take to it take a good 5-10 minutes depending on how quick you are, the bath itself was amazing with a view out onto the trees, you're so high up with the beautiful breeze and delightfully hot bath! Our stay at Notoya was my partner's first experience of Onsen as he is a bit too shy to use public baths and he loved it! Dinner was fantastic! We had a private room, all of our dishes were explained to us by the gentleman in as best as he could and everything was delicious! Especially the koi collar simmered in a sweet sauce! We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal!

My wife and I stayed for two nights at Notoya - Ginzan. The location was great, our room was nice overlooking the river, the food was really good, the staff were very helpful and courteous and we very much enjoyed the private hot spring bathing. There are several nice walks that you can take, the nearest goes to the waterfall and the longest to the old silver mine and park.

We stayed here in June, 2018 on our first visit to Japan. Stepping off the shuttle bus, we instantly felt like we had been transported from modern Japan to a fairytale land. The village is tucked into a ravine, with only pedestrians and handcarts allowed past the parking area. The shops are quaint and the waterfall beyond is breathtaking. The ryokan itself lived up to our expectations, with wonderful friendly staff. Communication was not an issue, although having some basic Japanese is helpful. The hillside private bath is amazing and a highlight of our stay. The food was great - dinner is served in-room, with breakfast in a common dining room.

The hotel is indeed very good but when I feel we got better hotels in very popular location (Nikko for example) for less money. We stayed for two nights, one dinner was OK the other was fantastic. The staff is very cooperative and nice but hardly manage to communicate in English. They have three onsens, a very nice public one, an amazing private mountain view one and additional private one that can not be booked so we haven't tried it. From the street it is the nicest building in Ginzan Onsen but the interior of the room is relatively small and less appealing.

If you've seen the movie "Spirited Away", it's just like that. Notoya Ryokan is massive and like a maze which is fun. All staff wear charming Japanese costumes. They are utterly polite and can speak English very well. Our room was super big. Everything is in there. The toilet is really nice and clean. Food is abundant and served right inside our room. When it's time for bed, one of the staffs comes to prepare our futon. We felt like Japanese feudal lords. The Yukata is the most beautiful I've seen. And I'm really impressed with the baths. One is a shared bath, one can be reserved privately for 40 minutes. I enjoyed the bath so much that I went there twice a day. The Ryokan also provides shuttle bus to and from the train station. If I ever have a chance to visit that area again, Notoya would be my choice. There's really nothing to complain about.

I've stayed at Notoya Ginzan twice now, and both times have been exceptional. Set against a mountainside, surrounded by forest, the gentle sound of water flowing through the canal in the centre of town is a constant reminder of the serene atmosphere you're immersed in. Lovely souvenir shops line the single street of Ginzan Onsen, and at the back you'll find the Notoya Ryokan, a beautiful old building with relaxing rooms and hidden public seating areas where you can watch the town and the sunset, and in winter, enjoy the gentle sight of powder snow falling. Excellent staff, wonderful local cuisine and a fun, relaxing experience all come together to make Ginzan one of my favourite ryokan locations. It's both a wonderful winter getaway and great Tohoku experience!

We stayed at the Notoya ryokan in late November, and it was a great experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was lovely, as were the baths. Food was also excellent. The shuttle bus to and from the station was very convenient and the bus driver very friendly. Ginzan Onsen itself is a lovely little onsen street. Very picturesque with nice souvenir shops and a little walk around the caves in the area. I don't normally write reviews but I was really taken with this place. I can heartily recommend Notoya to anyone and I hope to go back again someday.

Our room at street side comes with an excellent view, with traditional Japanese decoration including a kotatsu. The dinner was also delicate. Can't find any flaw to pick, definitely would visit again.
