What a special experience! The town is so adorable in the snow and Yokichi is the perfect place to stay. My husband and I were lucky enough to have been the only guests the night we stayed, but I’m sure it would have been wonderful even with other guests. The room is a cozy, traditional tatami style space. The bathroom and bath/shower spaces have clearly been remodeled because I was pleasantly surprised with how modern and new they were. The best part was the food and the warm hospitality of the host. Everything we ate was so delicious and clearly made with love. During dinner, our host played a video/documentary introducing the town and she was featured in it as the only segment showing food, so we think she’s probably the best cook in town! She was such a kind, warm, and hardworking host. Although we got into town before check in, she let us store our luggage (which she brought to our rooms before we checked in), let us borrow rain boots for the snow, and gave us recommendations of things to see in town. Aside from preparing the delicious and large spread of food for us during dinner, she laid out our futons while we ate so they were ready for us to sleep in afterwards. I also happened to forget something after we checked out and she even ran after us in the snow to return it! Overall 10/10 and would highly recommend it to all as it’s such a unique experience to have.

We had a fantastic stay here! A beautiful inn and incredible hospitality. It was one of our most memorable experiences, sleeping in an ancient inn with the sounds of the river outside our window. And some of our best meals of our whole trip were here! Really incredible dinner and breakfast. A really unique and beautiful place to stay. Highly, highly recommended!

We love this place with the great owner. The food is delicious with fresh ingredients. The bathroom, toilets are equipped with adequate amenities similar to staying at a hotel. The car parking is very convenient, just opposite the Ryokan. Thanks the owner for warm welcoming us and making us feel like staying at home. We will definitely stay here again for our next visit.

Yokichi is an exceptional place to stay and therefore a "must do" in your itinerary. The Ryokan is traditional and beautiful and has been in the family for generations. The lady of the house is so lovely, she does everything; cooks all the delicious food, pulls out and makes your bed during dinner, clears up your bed during breakfast, so hospitable. You really don't have to worry about anything except relaxing and taking in the beautiful home and scenery. The bathing facilities are excellent, like individual private onsens...such a treat. Everything was exceptional, highly recommend staying at Yokichi.

We stayed at Yokichi for one night. This was one of the stops in our three week trip to Japan. Japan was a great vacation and our experience at Yokichi ranked as the most memorable. The lodgings were clean and spacious. The wash rooms( shared) were state of the art. We were served dinner and breakfast in a dining room with the other guests. The food was fantastic and was prepared by the lady of the house. Traditional Japanese fare with delicate flavors. Highly recommended for any visitor to Japan.

I satyed with my wife for only 1 night due to limeted space...and realized that it's not enough time to exploring the sorrounding vilages. The very nice and kind owner lady guided us to enjoy the snow flow through her Gassu-Zukuri roof ryokan at early in the morning. It's a splendid experience to see how smart the architect of houses release heavy and thick snow from its "shoulder" roof. It's spectuculair technique in building engineering, ever. We have to coming soon to this place.

Yokichi is a beautiful ryokan with traditional cozy rooms. The view from the rooms is great and the food is also delicious and abundant. The staff was really kind with us and we were all alone in the house, so it was really intimate and we felt really welcomed. We really recommend it and hope to come back really soon!

This was my first trip to Japan. I did not know this place until i start planning my itinerary. I decided to stay a night after review at Japan guide web although it was a far journey after my Kyoto visit. Mrs Yokichi fix our mattress while we were having her very traditional cook dinner. Her garden plant is impressively particularly I woke up with a breath of fresh air in the next morning. Appreciate the Japanese guest house website get us a momentous journey in Japan. Thank you for the Japan Tourism Association to develope shiragawa for their old tradition and peculiar culture.

A wonderful experience again. The evening and early morning are so beautiful when the village is quiet and not full of travelers who come just for the day. The owner is a really good cook and very kind. She invited us to walk to the temple after dark to see the fireflies in the rice paddy, providing us with flashlights. It was magical!

Our host is warm and caring, allowing us our own space in her home but always discreetly available. She encouraged us to go for a walk after dinner before the moon disappeared. We soaked in the quiet beautiful night atmosphere of the village and came back refreshed to laid out beds on the tatami and extra hot water for our tea. After the delicious dinner she had prepared for us, it was the perfect end to a truly lovely day. Will definitely come back to stay. Highly recommended.

Our host is a very friendly and kindhearted lady. Although she does not speak a lot of English, she tried her best to communicate with us, the guests, using very basic English words and hand gestures. Moreover, she's very hospitable with her cheerful personality. Yokichi is located approximately 10 - 15 minutes walk away from the information center at Shirakawago. Dragging heavy luggage across the bridge in the very cold weather wasn't the best experience. The farmhouse is of a traditional one, with Japanese futons and sliding doors (that cannot be locked). The atmosphere is perfect, quiet at night while you enjoy dinner (at the dining room) or tea (in your room). The food is very delicious as well! It beats any other traditional Japanese meal I've tried in Japan, perhaps comparable to the traditional vegetarian meal in a temple at Koyasan. Experiencing the first snowfall of the season adds to our delight. Perfect farmhouse stay, highly recommended!

Yokichi is simply cozy and comfortable. Is a great experience staying in a clean, quiet farmhouse. The lady host is very kind and friendly. One of the best traditional japanese homecooked meal that we have ever had so far. The rice is their own harvest from their paddy field. The snow was quite thick and cold but it was still a memorable experience. We had no problem bringing our 3 yr old son along as well. we would love to be back again!

We love our stay in Yokichi. The lady host is friendly and kind, the futon style room is warmed, spacious and clean. They serve very delicious traditional Japanese home-cooked meal for us from their own harvest of rice grain. We really enjoy the dinner and breakfast which couldn’t be found elsewhere. Shirakawago is tranquil especially with the first snowfall that we experienced. We had no problem traveling with our 3 yr old son. Truly amazing experience and we would love to be back.

Winter came early in Dec 2014. My family of 4 had a snowing experience in shirakawa go which we enjoyed it very much. The ryokan-lady-in charge was hospitable, informative and helpful :-) The bathroom was clean and comfortable However, we do not like the pillow (too hard and bulky). We are Asian. And dinner and breakfast were just average. Not much meat, and it was cold bitter winter.
