Staying at Matsui Honkan was a highlight of our trip. I had been worried about the lack of comfortable furniture to relax in after a hard day's sightseeing, but it was no problem. Chairs and a table provided comfortable seating and an extra futon at night provided a really cosy bed. The spacious rooms were a delightful surprise, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were amazing. We would definitely come again.
  • Traditional, yet modern.

We stayed at Matsui Honkan with a 3 year old pre-schooler and a 4 month old infant, so it was absolutely important that the ryokan be kid friendly. We were not disappointed. The ryokan had many modern conveniences but still retained traditional charm. It also felt very private and exclusive. The only thing that I was slightly disappointed about, was that the window in our room had no view at all. It faced the back of another building and was more like a fire escape. Other than that though, no complains at all.
