Welcome to Fukuzumiro, a Traditional Ryokan (see definition of ryokan styles below). Fukuzumiro is a Meiji era ryokan with 19 Japanese-style rooms (only 1 room has a private bath and toilet - the other 18 guest rooms do not have private baths or toilets), numerous styles of rooms, and wonderful baths (only indoor hot spring baths, no outdoor hot spring baths). Originally built in 1891 on the banks of a river, new wings were added on to the original structure to produce a maze of corridors and rooms. Because of its quiet and relaxing atmosphere, many famous Japanese writers including Soseki Natsume and Toson Shimazaki as well as actors, writers, and members of the royal family have stayed at Fukuzumiro. All of the rooms are built in the traditional Japanese style, and the various rooms are constructed from cypress, cedar, zelkova, and pine taken from the nearby forests in Hakone. Fukuzumiro's main baths are round and the water is fed into them by long bamboo pipes from outside. The large baths are made from hollowed trunks of large pine trees, and they are edged in copper, and the floors are made of wooden slats. Meals are served in the privacy of the guest rooms, and the menu changes monthly. Check-in time is after 14:00 and check-out time is before 10:00 am. Important Travel Warning: It takes a long time to go through customs at Narita International Airport and then travel to Hakone. If your plane lands in the early morning at Narita International Airport, you can make it to a Hakone ryokan in time for dinner. However, if your plane arrives after 10:00 am you WILL NOT be able to make it in time for dinner. You should stay at least 1 night in Tokyo and then go to Hakone the next day. Traditional Ryokan
